this is a song i wrote, about A man who loses his wife and his home to the Mississippi river. from time to time the Mississippi River floods its banks and creates devastation, this song is one man's account of that devastation .
i watched a pbs documentary back in 2001, about the devastation the mississippi river has caused, throughout its recorded history. which led me to writing this song. in the documentary they would try to dam the banks of the mississippi river with sandbags, to try to stop it from overflowing. but it would still push on through.
Oh oh sweet, sweet Mississippi,
what a thing you did last night.
you came and stole, the only girl i loved
as she lay asleep by my side.
those muddy waters, came a rolling
and they rolled all through the night
though those banks, are there to hold you back
but you burst right through them everytime.
muddy waters, keep on rolling
keep on rolling out of sight
you stole my love, my home.
now dam yourself, heaven,
is where she sleeps tonight.
guitar solo.
muddy waters, keep on rolling
keep on rolling out of sight
you stole my love, my home.
now dam yourself, heaven,
is where she sleeps tonight .
